Preschool

Triton Elementary offers a full-day learning program for Pre-K students in our community. Our mission is to provide for the physical, mental, and social-emotional needs of each child while preparing him/her for success in kindergarten and the world beyond.

We believe that all children benefit and learn from active participatory learning and meaningful adult-child interactions. The learning environment supports student interests and provides a variety of materials for free and structured play in addition to child-initiated and teacher-guided experiences.

Note: Students who turn 4 years old by August 1 are eligible to apply for enrollment at Triton Elementary Preschool.  No more than 20 students will be enrolled so that a student-teacher ratio of 12-1 or less may be maintained at all times.  Preference will be given to students who live in the Triton district and to those who are 4 and not yet 5 by August 1.

Hours of Operation
Triton Elementary Preschool is in session daily from 8:00 am until 3:05 pm (8:00-2:35 on Fridays) following the Triton School Corporation calendar. A sample daily schedule can be found in the Triton Elementary Preschool Handbook.

Transportation
Bus transportation is offered to students who reside within the Triton district and are served by the transportation department. For more information, contact Laura Baker, Director of Transportation, at 574-342-2255.

Meals/Snacks
Breakfast ($1.20 per meal) and lunch ($2.10 per meal) are available daily. Students may also choose to pack a lunch.  A nutritious afternoon snack is offered to all students at no additional cost. Assistance for school lunches is available for qualifying families.

Fees
The cost of preschool is $125 per week for 36 weeks. However, families whose annual household income is less than $200,000 will only be charged $75 per week. Proof of income is required such as a W-2 form or monthly pay stub as well as completion of the application for assistance. Families may choose to pay by the week or the month. See the next section to find out if you may qualify for free preschool.

On My Way Pre-K Funding
Triton Elementary Preschool is an On My Way Pre-K provider which means our program meets Level 3 standards on the Paths to Quality rating scale. Families who qualify for this funding source receive weekly vouchers that cover the entire cost of preschool.  To see if you might qualify, complete the online application at onmywayprek.org.    Please note that On My Way Pre-K only applies to students who turn 4 but are not yet 5 by August 1.

Curriculum
Triton Elementary Preschool offers a wide range of learning experiences using small group instruction, whole group activities, and independent play.  Staff members plan lessons and activities based on the Indiana Early Learning Foundations to help students develop skills in language/literacy, physical and social-emotional development, mathematics, creative arts, science and technology, social studies, and approaches to learning.  Additional resources such as High Scope Preschool Curriculum and Second Step for Early Learners help staff deliver high-quality and developmentally appropriate instruction.
